Republican Party: Afghan Special Forces May be Manipulated to Threaten U.S. National Security

The U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan is about to reach an anniversary. Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee pointed out in a report on August 14th that the U.S. used to assist the Afghan Government in training special forces, but the U.S. military left them there when the U.S. pulled out. The congressmen pointed out in the report that Afghan special forces are familiar with U.S. military tactics, and if they are forced to work for “American enemies” such as communist China, Iran, and Russia, it will pose a major national security.

In the report on the first anniversary of the Taliban takeover of Kabul put forward by Republican congressmen, it was mentioned that when the Biden administration evacuated the U.S. military at Kabul International Airport from August 14th to 30th, 2021, it failed to give priority to the withdrawal of the America Trained Afghan special forces and other elite troops. Hundreds of U.S.-trained special forces members, former security personnel, and their families are still in Afghanistan, at risk of being killed and tortured by the Taliban.
Reports noted that these former special forces may have been recruited by America’s enemies, or forced to work for them. Including countries such as Russia, communist China or Iran. These U.S.-trained Afghan soldiers understand the tactics, techniques, and procedures of the U.S. military and the intelligence community, and if they work for the enemy, they pose a significant national security risk to America.

The report, which combines details about the withdrawal with congressional testimony, accused the Biden administration of ignoring the advice of U.S. military commanders, ignoring Taliban violations of the withdrawal agreement, and failing to adequately plan for the withdrawal.
