Bipartisan U.S. congressional delegation visited Taiwan after U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi

According to a report by the Associated Press on Aug 14, a delegation of U.S. congressmen arrived in Taiwan 12 days after U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited the island country.

The American Institute in Taiwan, which represents the U.S. government, said the five-member delegation, led by Democratic Sen. Ed Markey of Massachusetts, will meet senior Taiwanese leaders to discuss on U.S.-Taiwan ties, regional security, trade, investment and various issues.

A U.S. government plane landed at Songshan Airport in Taipei, around 7 p.m. on Sunday, according to a video broadcast by a Taiwanese broadcaster. While it wasn’t confirmed who was on board, the American Institute issued a brief statement soon after announcing the delegation would be in Taiwan on Sunday and Monday as part of their trip to Asia.

The other members of the delegation includes Republican Rep. Aumua Amata Coleman Radewagen, a delegate from American Samoa,Democratic House members John Garamendi and Alan Lowenthal from California, and Donald Beyer Jr. from Virginia.
