According to French media on Aug 10th, Admiral Pierre Vandier, chief of staff of the French Navy, warned the National Assembly’s National Security and Armed Forces Committee about the substantial strengthening of the CCP’s navy during the late July hearing, saying “against the CCP’s navy, we will win if we fight together in alliance.”
Admiral Vandier noted that we are “witnessing a naval restructuring drive unprecedented since World War II.” The CCP’s navy is still expanding rapidly. He called for the lawmakers to approve the next military programming law in response to the probable global conflict. He emphasized that the French navy should conduct more demanding and complex exercises, and “systems must talk to each other and weapons must be compatible. We need to prepare the ability to fight together.”
Antoine Bondaz, a researcher at the Foundation for Strategic Studies, expressed his support for the admiral, commenting on Twitter, “America is not alone in maintaining the status quo in the Indo-Pacific region.”
