Taiwan Will Not Accept Communist China’s White Paper on Taiwan

On August 10th, local time, Xiao Meiqin, Taiwan’s representative to the United States, was interviewed by an American media. In response to the white paper on Taiwan recently released by the Communist China, Ms. Xiao said that the Communist China is currently trying to threaten Taiwan to accept the political conditions put forward by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) through force and intimidation. The CCP’s conditions are to implement “one country, two systems” in Taiwan, which has failed in Hong Kong. After Hong Kong was occupied by the CCP, the fundamental rights of the Hong Kong people were severely regressed, freedom of speech, association and press were deprived. This system is not what the Taiwanese want. Taiwan will not give up its freedom and democracy just because it is intimidated by the CCP’s military force.

Xiao Meiqin said that for decades, the Taiwanese people have been accustomed to the CCP’s show of military force and the never-ending threat. Although the recent increase in the intensity of the CCP’s military exercises is worrying, it has not affected the daily life of Taiwanese people and their desire to breathe free air. Taiwan has made efforts to strengthen its self-defense in recent years, but not aiming at arms race with Communist China. Taiwan’s goal is to enhance its self-defense capabilities through an asymmetric defense strategy to deter the CCP’s attempts to invade Taiwan by force. In addition, Taiwan is also actively enhancing its capability of fighting against the CCP in economy, cyber, social cognition, etc., so that the public can get familiar with CCP’s tactics of diversified warfare against Taiwan and avoid that public unknowingly falls into the social panic trap created by the CCP.
