The U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) recently announced that the agency’s money and resources would be increasingly directed to focusing on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), although fighting extremist terrorist groups would remain a priority. Before that, the UK Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) had made the same strategic adjustment.
CIA deputy director David Cohen had delivered an important message at a meeting recently, that the agency’s top priority is trying to understand and counter Beijing.
Inside the agency, many officers are learning Chinese and moving into new roles focused on Communist China, according to people familiar with the matter. At the same time, the U.S. Congress has pushed the CIA and other intelligence agencies to make Communist China a top priority and to focus on how the CIA spends its money on CCP-related issues.
In the UK, MI6 chief Richard Moore said last month that the CCP is a bigger threat than terrorism, and is now the top intelligence priority for the agency.
The U.S. and the U.K. and other Western countries have now realized that the threat of the evil regime of the CCP to the world far exceeds that of any terrorist group.
