An influential businessman from Ukraine and his spouse were killed in a massive shelling of Mykolaiv in the south of Russia.

Oleksiy Vadaturskyi and his wife, Raisa, were killed after a missile struck their home overnight, according to local officials.

Mr. Vadaturskyi is the owner of Nibulon, a grain exporting company. He also won the “Hero of Ukraine” award.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called Mr. Vadaturskyi’s death was a huge loss.

Oleksandr Senkevych, the Mayor of Mykolaiv has described it as the most intense Russian bombardment of the city ever.

A hotel, a sports complex, two schools and a service station, as well as residences, were damaged.
