The White House said on Friday (July 22nd) that America will send Ukraine about $270 million to assist in its defense against Russian aggression, including $100 million for drones, amid ongoing fighting in eastern Ukraine.
White House spokesperson John Kirby told reporters in a briefing that the package authorized by U.S. President Joe Biden would give Kyiv access to 580 “Phoenix Ghost” unmanned aerial vehicles from privately held AEVEX Aerospace LLC.
A separate White House memo said the package includes another tranche of up to about $175 million for other defense aid.
The additional U.S. funding comes as Ukraine seeks to fend off Moscow as the worst conflict in Europe since World War II continues into its fifth month. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy this week said that his forces could inflict significant damage on Russia as Kyiv relied on Western weapons in its plan to launch a counterattack and retake territory.
