U.N. Chief Says Extreme Heat Will Eventually Threaten Humanity

U.N.Secretary-General Antonio Guterres issued an ominous warning Monday that humanity faces the impact of extreme climate events, UPI reported on July 18.

“Half of the world’s humanity is in the danger zone, with threats from floods, droughts, extreme storms, and wildfires. No country is immune,” Guterres said at the Petersburg Climate Dialogue in Berlin.

Recently, the impacts of the extreme heatwaves are evident across Europe, where wildfires have devastated lands in Europe and South America, while temperatures have broken records in parts of India, South Asia, and Africa in recent months.

Meanwhile, in the United States, the situation was similar, with temperatures rising to 110 degrees in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, as well as large swathes of the Great Plains.
