Xi Jinping visited the Xinjiang for the first time in eight years, showing off his successful” governance”

As criticism of the human rights situation in Communist China intensifies in Europe and the United States, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) leader Xi Jinping visited Xinjiang for the first time in eight years. It is widely seen as a demonstration by Xi Jinping of his “successful governance” over Xinjiang.

CCTV reported on July 15 that Xi made a four-day visit to Xinjiang, during which he inspected the major cities of Urumqi and Turpan.

In the logistics area of the international cargo train connecting Europe in Urumqi, Xi stressed that Xinjiang has become a core area rather than just a frontier.

Xi reportedly last visited Xinjiang in 2014. Shortly after his visit, he took the opportunity to cleanse the region after a bombing incident at a train station in Urumqi.

After the outbreak of the Xinjiang cotton incident, criticism of crimes against humanity in Xinjiang from Europe, the United States and other countries has been growing. The West has accused the CCP of committing “genocide” against ethnic minorities in Xinjiang. The U.S. enacted a law in June 2022, banning the importation of all products produced in Xinjiang through forced labor.

Xi’s trip is believed to be aimed at proving the success of his rule by personally visiting Xinjiang ahead of the 20th Communist Party Congress and thus fulfilling his ambition of being re-elected as the CCP’s leader.
