Former PM Shinzo Abe’s Body Arrives in Tokyo

July 9th, former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was shot dead yesterday in Nara City. Journalist Tahara reported the news in front of the former Prime Minister’s house in Tokyo.

Here is former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s house in Shibuya, Tokyo. Since it was early in the morning, there were few people on the street and several people associated with former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe were going in and out of his house. Many journalists were already standing there waiting. The body of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who left Nara Prefectural Hospital, is expected to return to his house here around midday.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is scheduled to campaign for the Senate election in Yamanashi and Niigata prefectures today, yet arrangements are being made for a memorial visit here as well.

Today is the last day of the Senate elections and both the ruling and opposition parties will be campaigning as scheduled. Therefore, the Prime Minister Kishida and others’ security should be reinforced.

Officials from the Prime Minister’s office said that Prime Minister Kishida will introduce measures such as keeping a greater distance from the audience during street speeches than previously, and stopping close conversations with the audience before and after the speech.

Other candidates are expected to switch to deliver their speeches in vehicles, which means they will be campaigning in a high alert status.
