FBI Director Calls CCP the “Biggest Long-Term Threat” to U.S.

Speaking alongside his British counterpart in London on Wednesday, July 6th, FBI Director Christopher Wray called the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) the “biggest long-term threat” to the United States and the United Kingdom.

Addressing international business leaders, Wray said CCP officials would use intelligence officers to “target” valuable information and companies to steal technology. The Chinese Government will stop at nothing to use resources to steal companies’ technology and cripple U.S. businesses and markets.

Wray also mentioned a case where people affiliated with CCP’s companies were caught in the U.S. heartland. They surreptitiously scooped up proprietary genetically modified seeds that would have taken nearly a decade and billions of dollars in research to develop on themselves.

It is important to understand that the CCP’s hacking program is much larger than that of all major countries combined. Moreover, the Chinese Communist Party uses cyber to “steal” vast amounts of information.

U.S. officials are working with MI5, the British intelligence service, to identify other investments by CCP proxies, third parties through which the Communist China steals information.

U.S. companies working with China should remain vigilant, and urged business leaders to contact the FBI to learn about the Chinese cyber threat approach.
