The British MI5 and the FBI Have Issued a Joint Warning That the Threat Posed by the Chinese Communist Party Is Growing

According to the report by Reuters on July 6, in a joint speech at MI5 headquarters in London on Wednesday, the heads of the British Military Intelligence Five (MI5) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) warned of the growing long-term threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to the interests of Britain and the United States.

Ken McCallum, Director of MI5, said that MI5 has doubled the deployment against the threat of the CCP, and the number of cases currently under investigation is seven times higher than in 2018. McCallum also said that in the past year, Britain has shared intelligence with 37 countries to help them resist cyber espionage.

Christopher Wray, Director of the FBI, said that the CCP “poses the greatest long-term threat” to the economy and national security of the United Kingdom, the United States, and Europe and the allies in other regions. “The Chinese government is trying to interfere in the internal politics of the United States and its allies, and Beijing directly interfered in a congressional election in New York this year,” Wray added.

At the press conference, both heads of security departments gave many practical examples related to the CCP. They asked those who knew the matter to be cautious and encouraged everyone to cooperate with the FBI and MI5 so that they could have relevant intelligence.
