Russia killed at least 19 people on Friday in a rocket attack on a residential area of a coastal city near the Ukrainian port city of Odesa, a day after Russian troops withdrew from the strategically important Black Sea Island.
Video shows charred buildings in Serifka, a town about 50 kilometers (31 miles) southwest of Odessa. The Ukrainian president’s office says three X-22 missiles fired by Russian bombers struck an apartment building and two camps.
The attack left 19 people dead, including two children. Ukrainian emergency officials said another 38 people, including six children and a pregnant woman, were hospitalized with injuries. Most of the victims were in apartment buildings. Andriy Yermak, chief of staff to the Ukrainian president, said: “A terrorist country is killing our people. In response to defeat on the battlefield, they fight civilians.”
