According to a Central News Agency report on July 2, the latest poll shows that up to 70% of Americans did not want U.S. President Biden to run for re-election. The Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll found that 71% of respondents believe Biden should not run for re-election, and only 29% said he should, The Hill reported. The poll was conducted from June 28 to 29 among 1,308 registered voters.
Among them, 45% of the respondents said Biden should not run for re-election because he was a bad president. One in three thought he was too old, and another a quarter thought it was time for a change.
Mark Penn, the Chairman of the Harris Poll, said that “President Biden may want to run again but the voters say “no” to the idea of a second term, panning the job he is doing as president. Only 30 percent of Democrats would even vote for him in a Democratic presidential primary.”
In addition, the Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll found that Biden has an overall approval rating of only 38%. Respondents gave Biden low marks on handling inflation (28%), the economy (32%), stimulating jobs (43%), and reacting to the Covid-19 pandemic (50%).
According to a report, Democrats are already bracing for a loss in the November election, given Biden’s low approval rating and the historical precedent that a first-term president’s party generally suffers losses in the midterm elections.
