The People’s Commune Returns in Communist China

On June 28th, the Xinhua News Agency of the Chinese Communis Party (CCP) reported Xi Jinping’s reply to a large grain grower. There are various indications that the CCP is using a variety of methods to promote the Rural Cooperatives that caused the great famine in the early 1960s.

During the Mao era, farmers had to hand over their arable land to the Rural Cooperatives, in which farmers work and eat collectively. After the harvested grain is turned over to the government, the rest is shared by everyone, and families do not have their own food reserves. Therefore, when there is not enough food from the commune canteen, there is no way for farmers to make a living, and the whole countryside literally become a forced labor camp.

In the late 1970s, the economist Dong Furen had clearly pointed out that the People’s Commune was actually a system of serfdom.
