Japan Revise NATO Cooperation Documents in Response to Communist China Threat

According to reports on June 29th, Japan’s Prime Minister Kishida, is attending the NATO Leaders Summit in Spain. The report said Kishida will confirm a significant revision of the document on specific cooperation with NATO to strengthen the response to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) threat.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Kishida spoke on the increasingly challenging security environment around Japan. He said Japan must fundamentally strengthen its defense capabilities and demonstrated that Japan will strengthen security cooperation with countries that share common values.

Kishida said the biggest and common strategic problem facing the international community is the CCP. He expressed support for NATO’s newly adopted “strategic concept” against Communist China. In addition, Kishida is expected to make significant revisions to documents on specific cooperation between Japan and NATO in order to strengthen the response to the CCP, and has agreed to advance cooperation in new areas such as cyber and maritime security.

Moreover, Prime Minister Kishida will meet with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on the sidelines of the meeting and hold a trilateral summit between Japan, the United States and South Korea. The three heads of state will exchange views on the security environment in the Indo-Pacific region.
