Russian President Putin was a target of mockery by leaders of the Group of Seven as they sat around a table Sunday, commencing a three-day summit in Germany’s Bavarian Alps, Canada’s CTV News reported on June 27th.
Russian state media released a propaganda picture of Putin being shirtless, riding a brown horse, and wearing military trousers, a gold chain, and sunglasses. Before discussions began on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and strategies toward immobilizing Russian assets, leaders were mocking the photo of Putin. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson jokingly asked, “Should we take our clothes off? We all have to show we are tougher than Putin.” Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau joined in, “We’re going to get the bare-chested horseback riding display.”
Humor aside, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was a key topic at the G7 summit. Johnson urged leaders to hold on as they also discussed commodity bans and other sanctions against Russia.
