WeChat Security Risk: User Data Sent to Hong Kong

A recent investigation report by an Australian network security and intelligence company revealed security issues with WeChat’s (overseas version) user data is sending directly to its servers in Hong Kong.

According to a research report on WeChat published by Internet 2.0, an Australian network company on June 20th, it was found that overseas version user data, including the user’s mobile network, device information, GPS, mobile ID and other information, and even overseas WeChat Pay data will be sent to WeChat server in Hong Kong, according reports.

The study noted that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)’s implementation of Hong Kong National Security Law in the past two years has seriously eroded Hong Kong’s autonomy, and that user data stored on WeChat’s server in Hong Kong is no different from that stored in Communist China and all are monitored by CCP.

Previously, another CCP social media platform, TikTok, also had data security issues, with its employees in Communist China repeatedly accessing users’ private data on U.S. servers.
