CCP Is Secretly Building Naval Facilities In Cambodia

It is reported, that a naval facility for the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) troops of China is being secretly built in the northern part of the Ream Naval Base on the Gulf of Thailand in Cambodia. But both countries involved have denied the news and taken unconventional measures to cover up the operation. The Chinese Communist Party(CCP) wants to build a global network of military facilities to support its emergence as a truly global power, and the construction of a naval base in Cambodia is one step towards this goal. Currently, the only foreign military base CCP has is a naval facility in the East African country of Djibouti.

Back in 2019 the Chinese government was reported to have signed a secret agreement to allow its military forces to use the base. But both Beijing and Phnom Penh denied the report, and a spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Defence denounced the so-called ‘rumours’.

According to an analysis by Van Teng, CEO of the Center for American Security, Beijing can exercise risk control over countries far from China’s shores. While the CCP is far from being able to match the network of military bases that the United States has around the world, the CCP’s military base in Cambodia will be able to provide the CCP with a force projection capability in the Asia-Pacific region.
