Canadian Bill C- 26 Calls for Ban on Huawei and ZTE’s Network Communications Equipment from Entering the Country

Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino formally present Bill C-26 to the House of Commons (Canada) on June 14th, which would ban Communist China’s Huawei and ZTE 5G and 4G network communications equipment from entering Canada.

The Epoch Times reported, the bill, “An Act Respecting Cyber Security,” was introduced after Mendicino announced that the Canadian federal government would ban Communist China’s telecom giants Huawei and ZTE equipment from Canada’s 4G and 5G networks. The bill seeks to amend the “Telecommunications Act”, adding the security of Canada’s telecommunications system as a policy objective

“Ransomware attacks, espionage, cyber attacks, foreign interference, the conduct of hostile state actors and their proxies are all part of the national security landscape,” Mendicino said in a press conference on June 14th, “This legislation will protect Canadian cybersecurity by strengthening partnerships between the government and the telecommunications sector, federal regulators, enhancing supports for sectors of the economy that are vital to national security and public safety, and offer new tools to protect Canadians in cybersecurity.”
