The CCP’s Infiltration and Sabotage in Campuses Alarmed the U.S.

In June, there were two consecutive incidents of Chinese students disturbing commemorative activities and tearing up posters on college campuses in the United States. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP)’s infiltration of American campuses has once again attracted attention.

One tool the CCP uses to manipulate Chinese students is the Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA). According to a 2018 report by the United States-China Economic and Security Review Commission (USCC) under the U.S. Congress, the CSSA had close ties to the CCP’s Embassy in the United States and received financial support from the Embassy.

The U.S. Government has fully grasped the extend of CCP’s infiltration in U.S. campuses.

In October 2018, then-Vice President Mike Pence took aim at the CSSA in a speech at the Hudson Institute in Washington, and he said “they also alert Chinese consulates and embassies when Chinese students, and American schools, stray from the Communist Party line.”

According to the Preliminary Report on the Political Influence and Intervention Activities of the Chinese Communist Party in American Colleges and Universities, released by the Wilson Center, some teachers said they believed that many Chinese students were afraid to discuss sensitive topics in class because they were afraid that someone would report it to the CCP authorities.
