According to the news of the South Korean media on June 11th, the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who visited the Ukrainian capital Kyiv on the same day, said at a press conference that the European Union (EU) executive’s comments on Ukraine’s accession request will be ready by the end of next week.
Executive Chairman von der Leyen visited Kyiv for the second time after the Russian invasion in February this year, and met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss Ukraine’s reconstruction and EU membership.
The recommendation as a candidate country for EU membership is only a preliminary stage. All 27 EU Governments must agree to grant Ukraine candidate status and discuss reforms extensively before joining the membership.
Ukraine applied to join the European Union on February 28th, the fourth day of the war. It is hoped that candidacy to join EU will be ratified at Euro summit scheduled for 23-24.
