
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen visited Kiev again this Saturday and said during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that a decision on granting Ukraine candidate status for EU membership could be made next week, UkraineToday.com reported on June 12.
During the visit, von der Leyen summarized the progress made on the path to the EU candidate status with the President of Ukraine. He said that by the end of next week, the European Commission should complete discussions on granting Ukraine status as a candidate country for EU membership.
On June 8, the European Parliament voted to grant Ukraine the status of candidate country to join the EU. The resolution was approved by a high vote, with the support of 438 deputies, 65 against, and 94 abstentions.
