Russia And The Communist China Jointly Manipulate Disinformation In Canada

According to a June 8 report by CTV News, Canadian social media platforms are becoming targets of foreign powers, including the Communist China and Russia, in order to control the direction of public opinion and influence the public’s perception of the war between Russia and Ukraine.

After analyzing over 6 million tweets and retweets, a new study by the University of Calgary’s School of Public Policy found that the vast majority of tweets and retweets about the Russia-Ukraine war with pro-Russian views, originated in Russia and the Communist China.

Meanwhile, may Twitter accounts discussing the war in Canada were closely linked to Russia and the Communist China which influenced the posts tweeting and retweeting the messages in support of the invasion of Ukraine.

The study indicated that Russia and the Communist China used their state apparatus to maliciously manipulate the spread of disinformation and, as a result, was sowing public distrust in Canada’s democratic institutions, including the federal government and mainstream media.
