
On May 24th, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus’s re-election was confirmed during Geneva’s 75th World Health Assembly.
It will be his second term as Director – General of the World Health Organization (WHO) in the global response to the coronavirus pandemic. His five-year mandate will begin on August 16th.
The deadline to submit proposals for candidates closed in late September last year. Tedros was the sole candidate. Therefore, his re-election seemed assured. After being re-elected, Tedros, an Ethiopian, said, “Thank you for your trust.”
