Ukraine’s First War Crimes Trial Since Russia-Ukraine War

A 21-year-old Russian soldier who shot and killed a 62-year-old Ukrainian civilian during the Russian-Ukrainian war has become the first Russian soldier to be tried for war crimes since Russia invaded Ukraine, foreign media reported on May 12.

According to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, the Russian soldier killed the unarmed victim with a rifle at close range. And the soldier has admitted killing the victim. Since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war, there have been a large number of crimes committed by the Russian army against Ukrainian civilians. Currently, more than 11,200 crimes have been recorded.

In addition, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Russian army has destroyed 570 medical facilities in Ukraine, including 101 hospitals. The brutal crimes committed by the Russian army against the Ukrainian people will surely be tried with justice.
