Japan-EU Summit Focused On The Issue Of Russia-Ukraine War And Taiwan Strait

According to Kyodo News on May 12th, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel held the 28th Japan-EU Summit in Tokyo that day, where international security became the most important issue in the meeting.

The report said Japanese and European leaders all strongly condemned Russia for its invasion and its alleged war crimes and supported the financial and trade sanctions on the Russian government and individuals by the international community.

In addition, both Japan and the European Union expressed serious concerns about the CCP’s unilateral attempt to change the status quo by force in the East and South China seas. The leaders underscored the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and believed that its peaceful resolution was crucial to the rule-based international order. The two sides issued a joint statement after the summit.
