Britain Promises Further $375 Million In Military Aid For Ukraine

On May 1, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said in a statement that around one hundred civilians had been evacuated from the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol, a city besieged by Russian troops, and that they arrived next day in the central city of Zaporozhye, which is controlled by the Ukrainian government.

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the evacuation was launched on April 29 with the assistance of the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the safe humanitarian corridors to the Azovstal steel plant was subsequently opened by agreement between Russia and Ukraine.
