On April 14, it was reported that the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the flagship of its Black Sea Fleet, the guided-missile cruiser Moskva, was severely damaged after an explosion and has now sunk to the bottom of the Black Sea.
Ukraine’s governor around the Black Sea port of Odesa, Marchenko said that the Ukrainian military hit the cruiser Moskva with two KH-35 Neptune anti-ship missiles, causing “serious damage” to the warship. The attack on the ship caused a fire, resulting in a violent explosion in the ammunition depot, including various types of near- and medium-range missiles, and the Moskva then sank into the Black Sea. More than 500 officers and men on board have been evacuated.
It is said that the Black Sea Fleet has always been a symbol of Russian military power, and the flagship “Moskva” has been in service for more than 40 years and is one of the most powerful warships in terms of defense capabilities. This is the second major Russian ship to suffer serious damage since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war. Last month, one of Russia’s landing support ships, the Orsk, was destroyed by Ukraine.
