Shanghai’s Dragon Television Cancels Its Special Anti-epidemic Programme Celebrating the City’s Success

The pandemic situation in Shanghai continues to be severe while Shanghai residents are locked up at home and on the verge of collapse. They are under the dual pressure of the unblocking in the unforeseeable future and the severe shortage of supplies.

The CCP official ignored the devastation caused by the blockade, and Shanghai residents joined the volunteer effort to rescue the elderly living alone or those facing food shortages. Unexpectedly, the CCP media, “Dragon TV”, launched a program scheduled for last night, the 12th, which invites top celebrities, including Yi Yang Qianxi, Dilireba, and Zhang Yixing, to perform a special show to celebrate the fight against the epidemic and cheer up Shanghai citizens. Yet, it was met with a tidal wave of criticism on Weibo.

According to the program schedule for “United Together to Guard Shanghai – Dragon TV’s Anti-epidemic Special Program” last night, the celebrities appearing in the program come from Hong Kong and Taiwan artists. Once the news came out, many Chinese went to Weibo to leave messages, saying that the special program was completely out of reality, the people were suffering at home, but the officials couldn’t wait to “sing and dance for peace”. Some people suggested, “If you want to shoot a program, why not go into the homes of Shanghai people, 24 hours of live broadcast, to see what the reality of the people is living.” Another person left a message and asked, “Has the problem of supplies been solved? Has the problem of medical care been solved? Is there such a rush for funerals or celebrations?” Others teased, “Is it cheering or irony to have Shanghai people locked up at home watching such a show?”

Under the huge pressure of public opinion, Dragon TV had to urgently announce that the program was put on hold.
