Biden Called Russia Of Committing Genocide In Ukraine

On April 13th, according to a local media report, U.S. President Joe Biden called Russia of committing genocide in Ukraine on Tuesday, and this was the first time the Biden administration has used this term against Moscow’s aggression against Ukraine.

President Joe Biden speaks to the media before boarding Air Force One at Des Moines International Airport, in Des Moines Iowa, Tuesday, April 12, 2022, en route to Washington. Biden said that Russia’s war in Ukraine amounted to a “genocide,” accusing President Vladimir Putin of trying to “wipe out the idea of even being a Ukrainian.” (AP Photo/Carolyn Kaster) Genocide is defined by the International Law as the intentional destruction of a people, in whole or in part, such as an ethnic, national, racial, or religious group. And acts that constitute genocide under the United Nations Convention include killing the members of the group, causing serious bodily or mental harm, imposing living conditions intended to destroy the group, and preventing births.

The report mentioned that genocide has long been considered the most serious international crime and that the U.S. is extremely cautious about identifying this crime because of the strict legal definition of the term and the heavy implications of the accusation. According to President Biden in a recent interview, he clearly defined the crimes committed by Moscow in Ukraine as “genocide,” and the U.S. court will further determine whether the actions of Russia constitute such a charge on a legal level. Moreover, President Biden has repeatedly called Putin a war criminal and called for a global trial for his atrocities.
