New Record High Daily CCP Virus Cases in South Korea

According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korean Central Epidemic Prevention and Control Headquarters reported on March 30 that as of 00:00 on the same day, there are 424,641 new confirmed CCP virus cases. This is an increase by 77,087 cases from the previous day. It brought the number of new cases of a single day back to the peak again, but it is 66,180 fewer single day cases than one week ago on the 23rd. There is a cumulative total of 12,774,956 confirmed cases in South Korea.

Meanwhile, the high infection rate has also caused an increase in death rate and severe cases. The number of new severely ill patients maintained at a four-digit high for 23 consecutive days. A record high of 1,301 cases is recorded. In addition, there are 432 new deaths, which is the second highest since the outbreak of the epidemic. There is a cumulative total of 15,855 deaths in South Korea.

The serious situation has raised concerns about the high transmission rate and increasing severe cases caused by the Omicron sub-variant BA.2. Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) stated that cases of infections caused by Omicron peaked the week before, after a brief five-day decline, confirmed cases began to rise again on Sunday March 30th. The number of deaths and severe cases is expected to increase further in the coming weeks.
