According to a Washington Times report on March 25, U.S. National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, said that the U.S. government believes Russia will likely further invade other countries, including NATO allies.
Sullivan said, “So we do believe that Russian aggression in Ukraine shows a willingness by the Russians to disregard international borders and to disregard the basic rules wrote by the international community that have been built and sustained over the course of seven decades,” Sullivan stressed that President Biden made it clear that he would deploy U.S. troops to the Baltic States, Poland and Romania, and deploy four battle groups to consolidate the east wing of NATO.
He wanted to convey to Russia a clear message that the United States and NATO would defend every inch of NATO land. The collective defense mechanism stipulated in the NATO charter may deter Putin’s intention to invade NATO.
