Biden visits Europe today, plans to sanction more than 300 Russian Duma lawmakers

Today, U.S. President Joe Biden heads to Europe to meet with leaders of NATO, European Union, and Poland to discuss the plan against the Russian-Ukrainian war. U.S. and its allies will discuss the further sanctions on Russia. President Biden will announce it in the Brussel meeting as soon as the 24th, White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said on 22nd.

The U.S. media quoted an official with knowledge of the matter, the scope of this round of sanctions has not yet been clearly defined. The U.S. will coordinate with members of the European Union and the Group of Seven industrialized nations. The sanctions are expected to cover 400 people, including 328 State Duma members and Russian rich powerful people. The member of the State Duma is equivalent to a member of the House of Commons.

Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a “special military operations” to invade Ukraine. The Russian State Duma passed this resolution and supported President Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. It then approved a bill prohibiting the use of speech to “smear” the Russian military, including the word “invasion” and other words that describe the current invasive war. The violators can be sentenced to a maximum of 15 years in prison, which has led to the withdrawal of many foreign media from Russia.

In the Russian-Ukrainian war, the Russian State Duma will face international condemnation along with President Putin.
